We love our work. We love the business of business. We're endlessly fascinated in people.

Launched May 1 2018, Tricky is a response to understanding that brands can no longer tell their stories via marketing message alone. Until now, delivering on this new reality involved a multi-agency response across design, storytelling, people and performance.

A Tricky brand story is designed to travel and to last.  Encompassing vision and values, purpose and promise as well as personality and key messaging, every story we create captures what you are truly capable of delivering on with a fresh inspired narrative.

It’s no longer about one perfectly crafted film or identity; it’s about one perfectly crafted brand story that can be executed easily one hundred different ways across the whole organisation.

Our team are innovators, analysts and detectives. We are strategic and creative – and not always in that sequence. While as professionals we may be experienced and driven, as humans we remain humble, curious and grateful.

We lead with empathy and, in our solutions, we seek to honour what drives our clients as well as their staff and customers. We believe in collaboration, transparency and a tightly defined brief.

Key People

jill
Jill Brinsdon | Partner

After an awarded career as a Creative Director in major multi-national advertising agencies, including time on numerous Global Creative Councils, Jill Brinsdon founded brand communication agency Radiation in a hurry in 2000. Not only had she run out of places to work that inspired her, she could see a change in the way consumers were interacting with brands and wanted to be at the forefront of the rise in the importance of culture as a brand differentiator. Jill has a restless intellect and is now a  highly sought-after strategist both in New Zealand and the US. Often referred to by clients as a business therapist at the end of projects, she remains at the heart of the businesses she helps refresh, reinvent or reposition for many years.

Ahead of the game again, in 2018 she has formed Tricky with Denise Faraco and Luke Morreau, supported by the project leadership experience of Liz Rollo, to be New Zealand’s first brand performance specialist agency.

She is also a Global Council Member for Beyond Type 1, connecting more kiwis to a powerhouse global community serving people with Type 1 diabetes. Founded only two years ago in the United States, Beyond Type 1 is tackling the big issues, destroying misconceptions and building an inspiring global digital community already with over 1.5 million followers across their digital channels.

Thanks to her regular media appearances on TV One Breakfast Show and Seven Sharp, as well as commentary on Radio Live, Jill has become a well-known and highly entertaining media commentator.

Luke Morreau | Partner

Thanks to a career designing brands across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East as well as in Australasia, Luke Morreau has a global understanding of how to optimise brand presence in an increasingly complex marketplace.

Specialising in building inspiring and motivating brands that create richer more meaningful customer experiences, Luke has unrivalled experience across a diverse breadth of brands, products and sectors. During his most recent role as Senior Designer for Icebreaker Merino, his knowledge of the retail sector in particular is beyond compare.

Luke has an acute understanding of what’s required to run a large omni channel retail business including developing new retail environments, global ecommerce platforms, and the creation of video, print and digital assets for multiple markets.

Perhaps his trickiest move to date is his role as designer, director and Cofounder of Woolkin, a range of 100 percent natural baby and children’s products. A co-founded start-up with manufacturing in both New Zealand and Germany, this is yet another example of Luke’s real world experience with taking business ideas and transforming them into powerful living brands.
